Interview: James Burland

Today I interview James Burland from the creative life blog.
Previous interviews:

Michell Bak

Michael Hell

Gregory Taieb

So, tell me something about you. (age, hobby etc.)

>I’m an über early adaptor! An 8 hour tour around the Apple or Nokia R&D labs would be heaven to me!

How did you come to the mobile and S60 scene?
>My entry into the the mobile scene was via the Nokia 3650, a beast of a phone! It was quite limited in comparison to most modern phones, but back then it was a legend! I’m seriously thinking of buying one on ebay – I just love that freaky circular keyboard.

Tell us something about your blog.
>Well, let me see . . . The Creative Life Blog has been around since 2004, but it was only at the end of last year that I decided to focus more on phones and mobile technology. I have more ‘focusing’ to do in the next few weeks, which my result in an entirely new blog – exciting times!

Why did you start blogging?
>I’ve always been interested in content creation and publishing, from video to music – graphic design to websites. A blog just seemed like a great place to pull it all together in one place.

Do you have a idol (blogging idol)?
>I was originally inspired by the original Russell Beattie blog. Russell would often share interesting observations regarding the latest and greatest phones and phone services. I loved his passion, both for mobile technology and for blogging.

What was your first S60 phone and which device do you have at the moment?
>The Nokia 3650, I currently have a Nokia N95.

What do you like most about S60?
>It’s what computers have become! (^_^)

Where should S60 makes improves?
>Speed. It still takes too long to get around the interface. The iPhone seems to be much faster and I’m sure that has as much to do with the software as the hardware.

Now a question you miss and you want to answer . . .

What’s the next big thing in mobile phone technology?
>Personally, I’d love to see a real successor to the N93, complete with surround sound and 720p HD video recording – wouldn’t that be something!!?
